This is seriously THE BEST homemade white bread I have ever had or made. It is now my go to recipe for all our family’s bread needs.

This dough works for bread, cinnamon rolls, rolls, and anything else you want to use it for.

It is a light and fluffy and slightly sweet flavored bread.

Every time I’ve made it, it turns out soft- like a Hawaiian bread.


Amish White Bread

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 cups warm milk
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 3 T. Yeast
  • 3 t. salt
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 11 cups flour
  • 4 T. butter


Mix together the water, milk, sugar, & yeast and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.

Add the oil, salt, and then the flour one cup at a time.

The key to this dough is letting it knead in your machine for a good 5 minutes, or by hand for 10 minutes once it pulls away from the bowl.

Place the dough into a well oiled bowl, then flip the dough over and make sure all parts of the dough are coated in oil.  Cover the bowl with a damp warm cloth and let raise for about 1 hour or until double in size.

Divide the dough into 4 parts and place into oiled bread pans. (for loaves of bread) or roll out to make cinnamon rolls, or shape in to the desired roll shape.

Let rise for another 30 minutes.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until golden brown.



One of my favorite things to do is roll this dough out like I'm going to make cinnamon rolls (just not as thin) and add the butter, brown sugar and cinnamon then roll it up and fit the roll into a bread pan for a cinnamon roll loaf. (these keep better and don't dry out like cinnamon rolls can)
