WHAT TO DO WITH ROUX

If you’ve never heard of Roux let me tell you this recipe will be a game changer! Probably one of my favorite base recipes in the kitchen. You can literally make so many different things with a roux.

Once you learn how to make a roux you can: add it to soups to thicken them, make different types of gravy, sauces, even fondue! A roux is basically butter, flour & milk. Watch the video below to learn how to make it. At the end of the video there are some ideas of what you can do with a roux.

Ingredients

  • 4 T Butter (1/4 c.)
  • 1/4 c. flour
  • 2 c. milk

Instructions

Melt the butter, add flour and mix well, then SLOWLY add the milk making sure to mix well while adding the milk.  This will prevent clumps in the sauce.  Simmer & stir constantly until the sauce has thickened.

That is your basic roux.  What you add to it from there makes it into different recipes.
