FREEZE DRIED CANDY

by A to Z for Moms Like Me

If you haven’t tried freeze dried candy yet, you are missing out! Now that Harvest Right freeze dryers becoming more affordable for individuals to own, freeze dried foods are getting more popular.

When it comes to freeze dried candy, there are some popular favorites. Skittles are probably the most popular freeze dried candies, and for good reason. When freeze dried, most candy will puff up and become light and full of air. As a result, they can be brittle or fragile, but once you bite into them the initial crunch will melt in your mouth as the candy dissolves similar to eating cotton candy.

Our experience

For our first batch of candy we did: Skittles, Salt Water Taffy, Bit-o-Honey, and Tootsie Rolls. All of them turned out pretty good! The bit-o-honey’s are SO good! Normally they are too hard/chewy for me to enjoy, but in their freeze dried version you get the full flavor without the chewy hardness of the candy. And the taffy- holy cow! The taffy ends up being like Styrofoam balls, but just dissolve in your mouth.

Watch the video below to see the full process. It was our first time doing candy so the video is 100% learning as we went.

Try some freeze dried skittles

Our oldest son is putting in his mission papers this month for a church mission. As such, he needs to earn the money to pay for his mission. We are selling bags of freeze dried skittles as a fundraiser. You can purchase a bag in our shop here at the blog by clicking on the “shop” tab at the top.
