I recently borrowed my neighbor’s steam juicer and HOLY COW! SO COOL! I can’t wait to get one of my own, it’s now on my wish list!
Here’s the steam juicer, seriously, if you have fruit trees or juice things, or can foods- you’ll probably want one. My neighbor uses the left over mashed fruit (skins etc.) and makes it into fruit leather so there’s little to no waste!
Here’s the video of me making the plum juice & syrup.
Enjoy!

Ingredients
- Plums
- Sugar- (between half to 1:1 ratio of juice)
- Lemon Juice- 1 teaspoon per cup of juice
Instructions
Once you juice your plums, if you are wanting juice you are done and can pour the juice into your jars then process in a water bath canner for 10 minutes plus your altitude recommendations. (I'm at 5500 feet above sea level so I always do 20 minutes)
If you want syrup, measure the amount of juice and add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice for each cup of juice. (optional, but it helps the color stay brighter), and between half and 1 to 1 ratio of sugar to juice. (so 10 cups of juice would be 5-10 cups of sugar)
Bring the syrup to a boil and cook down 25%. Fill your jars and process in a water bath canner for the same time as you would the juice. (I do 20 minutes)
Notes
Use the syrup over pancakes/waffles, ice cream, pies, cobbler, etc. or in drinks as a flavor add in. My neighbor uses the juice for homemade popsicles!
