Traveling with a family can throw everything off balance! Especially when you have a large family like we do. In these posts we will share some of the ways we save money on food while traveling or on vacation.
MAKE A GAME PLAN
Planning ahead as far as possible will help you be able to budget for food for the trip. Include the purchase of gift cards to fast food or restaurants your family enjoys eating at, these can be bought months in advance and set aside for the trip.
An hour of planning can save you 10 hours of doing.
Here are a few tips to start off with:
AVOID GAS STATION SNACK PURCHASES
Don’t do it. You will pay 3x as much and you will regret it. If there is something you tend to purchase at gas stations, buy it in advance at Walmart, or a grocery store and save the money!
TAKE A COOLER
Packing a cooler is a great way to keep your travel foods fresh & cold. With a cooler you can take your own drinks, snacks, and even meals.
HIT UP COSTCO
Just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean you can’t still go to the local Walmart, Target, Costco, Sams Club, etc. In fact, my family almost always goes to Costco while on vacation to get food for at least 2 meals, sometimes more.
TAKE YOUR OWN SNACKS
Road trip snacks can also be made and frozen, or purchased in advance. Make homemade cookies, brownies, rice krispie treats, snack bags (a ziploc bag filled with random snacks for kids). Or even purchase some snacks and keep them aside for the trip.
