Anyone who knows me will tell you I am a BIG fan of anything solar powered. We even use solar powered Christmas Lights on our tree and house each year. (these ones)
So when I saw this solar powered drip irrigation system I was really excited to try it out in our greenhouse. Our new greenhouse (see previous post on how we built it) didn’t have a water spicket near it. Eventually we plan to put a couple more in the back yard, and at the same time put in a sprinkler system for the grass, but with a long list of projects to do inside and outside this house it most likely wont happen for a year or maybe two.
But we didn’t want to just put off having a garden or planting anything for a year or two, so this solar powered drip irrigation system was the perfect solution!
We LOVE it! It syphons water from a 55 gallon drum that we only have to fill once every few weeks. The solar panel charges a built in battery connected to the pump and timer. We set it to water for a specific length of time and specific hours apart. (we started with 5 minutes of watering every 12 hours, but now have changed it to 5 minutes every 24 hours- we’ll adjust as necessary with the Summer temperatures)
We loved the large one in our greenhouse so much that I ordered a small one for the apple trees and artichoke plants we have along a fence. The smaller one is perfect for that area! I really can’t say enough amazing things about this system. I’m currently debating about getting another large one for our other fruit trees and berry bushes.
